Feeling Stuck in Your Creative Process?
You’re Not Alone…

Every creative hits that wall. You have ideas, a vision, something you want to express—but translating it into a finished image feels like a constant struggle. Maybe you’ve tried new techniques or tutorials, but they only go so far.

That’s something we both experienced—until we started working together.

This course was born out of our own creative partnership. We come from different backgrounds, with different strengths and styles, but instead of competing, we challenged and supported each other. Through that process, our work got sharper, our vision got clearer, and photography became exciting again.

Now, we’re pulling back the curtain to show you exactly how that happened.

Through lessons built on real collaboration—shared projects, friendly banter, and creative problem-solving—you’ll see how healthy tension and mutual respect can push your photography further than going it alone ever could.

You’ll learn how to:

  • •► Spot what’s missing in your own work by seeing how others approach the same challenges

  • •► Develop a stronger vision by articulating it to someone else

  • •► Embrace friendly competition that fuels—not frustrates—your growth

  • •► Start looking for your own creative ally—someone who complements your process

This course isn’t about copying what we do.

It’s about seeing what’s possible when two people combine their skills, ideas, and vision—and helping you find that same spark in your own journey.

If you’re feeling stuck, don’t go deeper into isolation.
Learn what healthy collaboration can unlock.

Meet Your Instructors

Gavin Hardcastle

If you’ve ever stumbled across a breathtaking landscape tutorial delivered with a side of sharp wit and deadpan humor, you’ve probably met Gavin Hardcastle.

Known to thousands as Fototripper on YouTube, Gavin has spent years exploring the world’s most remote and rugged locations—often with a mischievous grin and a tripod slung over his shoulder. But behind the laughs is a seriously skilled photographer with an uncanny ability to pull stunning compositions out of the most unlikely places.

What sets Gavin apart?

It’s his eye for structure, balance, and light—even in chaotic, unpredictable environments. Whether he’s scaling coastal cliffs or trudging through foggy forests, Gavin makes composition look effortless (though you’ll see, it rarely is).

In this course, Gavin brings not only his technical expertise but also his playful, candid approach to the creative process. You’ll learn how he breaks down a scene, finds clarity in clutter, and makes compositional decisions that draw the viewer in.

Blake Rudis

When it comes to Photoshop mastery, few can match the depth and clarity that Blake Rudis brings to the table. As the creator behind f.64 Academy on YouTube, Blake has helped thousands of photographers move beyond basic edits and truly understand the why behind every adjustment.

Blake is a landscape photographer at heart, but it’s his command of color and tone theory that makes his work—and his teaching—stand out. He doesn’t just show you how to edit an image; he shows you how to bring it to life with intention, emotion, and technical precision.

What makes Blake different?

He’s the rare kind of instructor who can break down complex ideas into practical, bite-sized lessons. From subtle tonal shifts to mastering color harmony, Blake reveals the science behind the art—and does it in a way that sticks. Honestly, he’s forgotten more about Photoshop than most of us will ever learn.

In this course, Blake pairs his post-production expertise with real-world creative insights. You’ll see how his deep understanding of visual theory enhances every step of the process, from in-camera capture to the final polished image.

Better Together, Than Going It Alone

When Gavin and Blake teamed up, they brought two worlds together—field-tested composition and deep post-production expertise. What started as creative banter turned into a powerful collaboration that pushed both of them to grow.

This course shows exactly how that dynamic works—and why working with someone who challenges and complements you can transform your creative process. By watching how they learn from each other, you’ll start to see what’s possible when you stop creating in a vacuum.

The Places WE Will Go!

Would you like a peek inside the course? Here’s your chance to see the places we’re going to take you on this exclusive collaborative adventure!

Logan Pass Viewpoint

Our first impression of the park was after two very long road trips, but that didn’t stop us from getting right to it!

This viewpoint was breathtaking!  Do you know how we know?  There were two wedding portraits taking place on the same Monday evening.   That’s how you know you’ve come to the right place for breathtaking photography!

Logan Pass Ascent

While everyone was coming off the path of Logan Pass, here we were traversing it.  The weather was sketchy, but we were hopeful that would make for some incredible photography.  We (I should say, GAVIN) was right!

We came away wet and exhausted, but our memory cards were full of incredible memories.

Hidden Lake

Nothing, and we mean nothing, says Glacier National Park, like the view of Hidden Lake.  This brilliant expanse seems to go on forever.  You can take in the view of Bearhat Mountain with the company of mountain goats as they forage for their evening meal.

This may have been the most exhilarating experience in photographic history for both of us.

St. Mary Lake

Who brings a surfboard to Glacier National Park?

Not us or anyone we know, but we could’ve!  We were met with gale force winds on Sunpoint Coast that created two foot swells at times.

While we were really hoping for those beautiful glass-like reflections, we didn’t complain because the photos were epic!  The Oregon coast prepared us nicely for the unseasonal weather in Glacier NP.

Glacier Valley View

While this view is just a simple pull-off on Going-to-the-Sun Road, it made for a wonderful evening of photography.  The alpenglow on the mountains that tower above the valley made for a great conversation about Photographing places that most people drive right on past.

Many Glacier*

Similar to our experience in St. Mary Lake, Many Glacier met us with waves rather than reflections.  What made this place even more challenging was the rain that came intermittently.  It was cold and wet and not ideal for photography, but we braved it and came away with some keepers!

* This excursion is only included in the “Make Great Shots: Deleted Scenes” content.

Two Medicine Lake*

We woke up early for sunrise at Two Medicine Lake.  It wasn’t one of those epic sunrises that you pray for at the sacrifice of sleep, but it was the only calm enough morning to photograph the lake without two foot waves.  This location boasts beautifully colored rocks under crystal clear water.

* This excursion is only included in the “Make Great Shots: Deleted Scenes” content.

Frequently Asked Questions
Make Great Shots •

What version of Photoshop do I need?

For the most part, any version of Photoshop will do.  We will be using some of the newer tools like the remove tool and some features in Adobe Camera Raw that are packaged with the latest version of Photoshop.

However, most of the techniques used in the course material are rather basic and will apply to many outdated versions of Photoshop.

Do I need any special tools to follow along?

Nope, but that’s a great question.  While Blake makes MANY plugins for Photoshop, we deliberately did not use special tools in the course material.  We wanted you to be able to use a barebones version of Photoshop for this course as not to leave anyone out or make them feel like they need yet “another thing” to follow along.

We will be using some actions in the course material, but we’ll show you how we made them and you’ll always have access to them for future use on your own images.

What if I know nothing about Photoshop?

No worries!  We wanted to make this course approachable for everyone. Therefore, we will show you everything in a step-by-step manner.  Here’s what we think based on your level of Photoshop:

Beginner:
You’ll learn a lot, but we won’t leave you in the dust. We’ll explain every adjustment layer we use and WHY we use it.

Intermediate:
You’ll be in great company and find this course is the perfect pace for your skill level.

Advanced:
You’ll learn a few tricks here and there, and you’ll be able to keep up with us – no worries.

I don't consider myself an artist with artistic vision, is this for me?

Heck yes!  We like to think that everyone who picks up a camera is an artist whether they know it or not or acknowledge it or not.  We think you’ll be quite inspired after this.  Who knows, maybe you’ll even start calling yourself an artist 😉
