Very well done, like the back and forth between the two of you, learned a lot, thank you

  3. Andrew H. (verified owner)

    Enjoyed the course and content

  4. Ken Horsfall (verified owner)

    You always make great videos.

Love how you and Gavin work together. From finding the location, the thought behind the shot, the comp and the entire process was spot on. I also learned about the creative process (cheating), haha. Hope to see 2nd edition. One thing I think weโ€™d all like to see, the funny out takes, that Iโ€™m sure you have plenty of. Maybe have Gavin put them together and make make available to those of us who purchased.

  6. Marvin V. (verified owner)

It’s great to see what other photographers are doing.

  7. Jaye H. (verified owner)

Excellent education! Humor, natural chemistry and two very well educated and talented educators makes for an excellent and easy to watch and learn course! Adding in the collaboration aspect with those taking said course? Phenomenal! I highly recommend this course to anyone who wants to really learn and understand how to make great shots!

Very informative. It is very nice to have the files to follow with and/or do your own edits to them. I found your PSD files very helpful-especially when I saw what you edited and how you edited the areas. I was able to apply some techniques to my photo editing.

I’d buy edition 2 in a heartbeat. That said, I’d suggest U2 skip the one location team shoot. I enjoyed hearing U2 discuss setting up the images, but we ended up with 5 examples of ‘kind-of’ the same general landscapes with ‘kind-of’ same general fall weather. Post was informative but I think with a wider variety of landscapes would enhance the educational aspects. Edition 2 could be images from your respective collection of raw files…let’s see deserts, seascapes, urban, etc. I do think U2 are on to a unique approach to trading and I encourage further refinement. I mentioned elsewhere…why not a Rudis-MattK Ps-LR shootout?

A most enjoyable video series that shows how two educators from two different regions of this great planet formed a special bond that resulted in one of the best photography educational courses Iโ€™ve ever had the pleasure of completing!

  11. Karl Schneck (verified owner)

    Great education and humor!

  12. Bryan Connelly (verified owner)

I attended the live webinar and purchased the course – both exceeded my expectations and I’ve very happy with the new skills I’m learning in Photoshop! I’ve been a long time user of Lightroom, but you guys did a great job demonstrating how much more you can do with PS! Great job!

  13. John Meo (verified owner)

As with all of Blake’s materials, worth every penny!

  14. Rob (verified owner)

I think you had to much pre hype. When I watched the course, I was lost because it felt like I had already watched it because of watching the pre video. When I watched the course it felt like I had already seen most of it. It was Good, but I would have like to see more HOW to do the edits more instead of showing what the edits were. Does that make sense? I really enjoy the 2 of you together and I love the banter. I have not watched the deleted scenes yet.

Great course! I learned so many photoshop tricks. The included actions are very helpful! Not only educational, but entertaining as well. Well done!

  16. Ron R. (verified owner)

The sharing of the thought process on capturing and processing of images provided insight to Blake and Gavinโ€™s workflow from a perspective Iโ€™ve not seen before. Useful information I can incorporate with my own workflow.

  17. David Guy (verified owner)

Very helpful going from start to finish. Can’t wait to get out there.

  18. John R. (verified owner)

This course and the idea to work in collaboration with another good photographer to create the material was fantastic! It was both entertaining and instructive. Being able to see how the compositions were done was very beneficial when combined with the post processing steps taken to complete the finished work. Excellent course!!

    Well done and entertaining.

Like left and right Twix, these two make a perfect pair. Go on location, behind the lens, and behind the screen. Learn the how and why to explore and grow your skills. The mixed in humor makes for a light-hearted learning adventure. One that is suitable for beginners and pros alike.

It’s fun, and I’m a reviewer for ฦ’stoppers. But I think someone with less experience will be put off because you casually mention techniques that many buyers will know nothing of. This set presupposes someone is an advanced Photoshop/Lightroom user. I thought your evolution toward good composition was very valuable, and I enjoyed seeing the locations, but I think a purchaser should be warned about needed skill levels.

I have purchased 7 of Blake’s courses. This one is different. To understand why, I need to say a few words about learning styles. I am a visual learner. Most of the previous courses include a great deal of background material in a lecture format with examples. Each building on previous steps. The Great Shots course knits everything together as a visual process helping you to understand both the why and how changes being made in a clear and natural way for a visual learner. To be clear, I already have a reasonably deep understanding of Photoshop. I use blending modes, masks, blend if tools, layers on virtually every image I process. So I already have a good understanding of the value of local adjustments. The Make Great Shots course pulls all the pieces together in a tight package making it far easier for me to review later with I have a need for a specific technique review. This is a very significant difference making this course far more valuable for me.

Outstanding & entertaining tutorial. I don’t normally use Photoshop but will consider after the tutorial.

  29. Diantha S. (verified owner)

The course is a masterful union between two good friends that go out and appreciate the beauty of nature in a series of mini adventures that were transformed into a collective set of on-location and editing ideas that can be adapted to make all images be great. I love the underlying theme of making the most of what youโ€™ve got while creating fun and memorable times to enjoy mutual interests – itโ€™s a priceless lesson that can be applied anywhere. I am looking forward to the follow up event that involves us putting the lessons into practice. I highly recommend it to anyone wondering whatโ€™s itโ€™s all about.

  30. Raymond (verified owner)

Very entertaining and good teaching. I don’t use Adobe, however it was still easy to following and adapt to what I am using. The important is “way” to do the edit. an other good point is to have two two photographer view on composition and editing. Very happy with my investment

Have not been able to finish yet but the ones that I did watch are excellent. Explained very well, easy to follow.

  33. Dave Y. (verified owner)

Watching Gavin and Blake work together was like witnessing a creative tug-of-warโ€”but in a good way. The whole push-and-pull dynamic? First time experiencedโ€”kinda awesome.

Getting a closer look at their workflowโ€”especially how they layer thingsโ€”was incredibly helpful. It gave me a much better understanding of how to approach one of my projects. I also appreciated the small tricks they used to enhance a single view; those details made a big difference.

Without a doubt I got a lot out this unique course. So Iโ€™d definitely recommend Make Great (or Greater) Shots.

  34. Jason Tucker (verified owner)

Highly recommend to get this while you can. The amount of knowledge and explanations (not to mention entertainment) are incredible, especially for the cost. I’m learning new techniques and already adding things to my workflow based solely off the advice and tutorials in these videos! Gavin and Blake a work so well with each other, I sincerely hope there’s a “Make Greater Shots” in the works!

  35. Tom B. (verified owner)

Blakes courses are the best ive ever taken, always indepth.

  36. Juan Alejandro Sanchez Botran (verified owner)

In his last book Quincy Jones stated that he was a great student of music technique because it greatly enhanced the capabilities of his artistic side, this is exactly what f64 Academy does for me in photography. The latest course โ€œMake Great Shotsโ€ takes it up a notch by teaming up with Gavin Hardcastle to show us how to make great art with owe some technique, and have fun along the way.

  37. Chuck Moorehead (verified owner)

Great job! We got to see the entire process from taking the photo to the final adjustments. There is a lot of things I am going to change about the way I take my photos and edit my photos from now on. It is presented in a very pleasant and easy way to understand along with some dry humor.

  38. Douglas M. (verified owner)

    High quality, very informative

  39. Richard Hart (verified owner)

Easy to digest, handy action tools and perhaps most importantly a rational for when and why to use certain techniques. I hope enough people buy this course to make a part 2 viable.

  40. Richard Thorpe (verified owner)

I am from the same part of the world as Gavin although I am in his parents age bracket and don’t part with my money lightly. I have been following Gavin for some time admiring his skills and thinking behind his photography. I have also been using Lightroom as Photoshop was too bewildering to venture in. I was drawn in by the ‘why’ a particular path was chosen followed by how you do it. I have found it a very steep learning curve and have to watch and re-watch the videos to follow how you do it.

I am at the age where I find myself at a door and wonder was I coming in or going out. This course has just what I need to guide me into improving my dull uninspiring photography, hopefully while I know why I have got a camera in my hand in the first place.

    Thank you Gavin and Rudi

  41. D Day (verified owner)

Well, I loving the interaction of you and Gavin. However, I have even opened the course yet. Been gathering and printing for shows and markets. Not much time for education. I’m guessing you understand.

  42. Daryl Vasichek (verified owner)

Doing this with Ipad Photoshop. My Macpro is too old. I was from Montana though and have enjoyed Glacier Park
Many times and under better weather conditions than you!

  43. Denise H. (verified owner)

Great collaboration! Start to finish is excellent collaboration concept.
I have the Vision panel and am an academy member but the actions you included are helping me take bigger steps to use for newbies to photoshop.
You can feel that you both really care about us quality photography and teaching.
    Thank you!!!!!

Would it be possible to make subtitles available for the courses? Recent purchase of a course by Sean Bragshaw came with subtitle files that can be displayed when playing video through, free, VLC app. Currently I have to use Chrome’s auto subtitling which can be a bit hit and miss. I am hearing impaired and having subtitles makes it much easier to follow course.

  45. Al T. (verified owner)

The course is well organized and the lessons clear and enjoyably delivered. Although I have been a PhotoShop user for some time, this course provided a fresh look at my practices and, is very definitely fills the “missing link” of my educational journey

  46. randy sparrow (verified owner)

Mostly me as I respect you And Gavin. I had difficulty following at time. I’m a beginner photoshop user. So got lost sometimes. Also at times you moved cursor too fast to follow.

I have only recently started using Lightroom and Photoshop for my photo editing, having previously been put off by others saying how hard Photoshop was to learn, which indeed it is.
I am part way through Blakes ‘Learn Photoshop in 30 days’ course and have learned so much and am certain that without the course I would never have got to a competent level and just fumbled around with the basic editing functions.
I added the ‘Make Great Shots” course as I was interested to see the start to finish image capture and post processing Blake uses. Due to time constraints of watching and practicing with the daily instruction in ‘Learn Photoshop’, I have only watched the first part of ‘Make Great Shots’ however so far it has lived up to my expectations.
It is presented in a light hearted way but demonstrates Blakes methodology in analysing an image and then building it using the functionality being taught in the 30 day learn Photoshop course. In ‘Making Great Shots’ he not only explains the why but the how in each step of creating the finished image.
It complements the course I am taking but I know it would be of benefit to many seasoned Photoshop users, who may not be using the editing functionality to its fullest. Having spent some of my career in logisitics software sales and coaching, I have seen time and again that users get to a the level of competence necessary to accomplish a task and then stop trying to learn more and subsequent software releases are never explored.
I would therefore recommend ‘Make Great Shots’ to any photoshop users wishing to improve their photo editing,
I am positive they will learn something new and be inspired to re edit some of their previous images, as I am.

I enjoyed this course, it had humour, and the tutorials on PS were in-depth but easy to follow and I was able to replicate what they were doing. I did have to play them through a few times and made notes but I have learned so much that my own editing has already improved. Iโ€™m 66, and if I can do it anyone can. Thanks guys

the “opposing” viewpoints on how much or how little an adjustment should be were quite helpful as a reminder to know what your trying to accomplish as you edit. The viewer navigation map will be a part of all of my landscape images and I plan to go back on some older images to see how I did.

  51. Andrew Gray (verified owner)

Great to see how you guys work. Really enjoyed the course and got a lot from it. Never used photoshop, always been happy with Lightroom but photoshop gives a whole new level of control to editing. Keep up the great work. Love both channels ๐Ÿ‘
