The last time I visited Great Sand Dunes National Park was in October of 2023 on my way to a Workshop in Western Colorado with Josh Snow. I didn’t expect it to be much, nor did I expect it to be a place I’d find a lot of content, but I wanted to visit it for longer than an afternoon.
I went back to Great Sand Dunes in June of 2025, and I can say, without hesitation, this park is worth the trek! There’s a lot to shoot in and around the park, and it made for an incredible 3 days of shooting.
As I have done in the past, I will share the journey with you at this event. You will see:
► My Google Earth locations for the places I photographed.
► My successes and failures with various locations.
► My favorite pieces from the trip.
► Secrets to make your trip to GSD NP a success!
Download the KMZ file for use with Google Earth. Once downloaded, you can import the KMZ file into Google Earth Pro.
Thank you, Blake,
I’m a softy too. When I see something in humanity or nature that is so beautiful, I tear up, and my wife says, “Are you crying AGAIN!” When I discovered you back in your HDRinsider days and learned you were a trained fine artist first before ever picking up a camera, that made it for me. What drives me is being able to bring something of beauty, a feeling, appreciation, a calm element into someone’s home in an otherwise frenetic and stressful environment.
I REALLY appreciate the artistic view you bring to all your Critiques, the Vision Session(s), etc. You’ve opened my view of photography and art that has moved to not just a WOW, picturesque moment in time but how or what does it make the observer feel.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything you do and bring to the art world, Don
I really appreciate you, Don! Thanks for the feedback, it really helps fuel the fire and motivates me to keep on pushing through any struggles I may face for the betterment of the people on the other end. This business can way you down sometimes if you look at it for face value, but when you dig deeper and look at the “Why” behind it, this is why 🙂
A lovely tribute to your son, your family, nature, and the rest of us, Blake. It’s great to be able to be there in the moment with you, especially when your country is so different from Australia. I photographed some fantastic dunes last year in Mungo National Park, an awesome place in Australia, and I found myself trying to make comparisons with what you saw. However, Alaska popped into my mind. There’s so much to offer there, too, but what you recorded encompasses both of the places I’ve mentioned. This is a video that I’ll visit again to remind me of the beauty in this wonderful world of ours.
Being a long time member of F64 Elite is something I cherish. Thank you for all of your attention to details and to your members for your unique approach to teaching.
That’s awesome! That’s your vision working 🙂 I love it!
I genuinely love what I get to do for a living and the platform I’ve been blessed with to share with others. I’ve met some fantastic people along the way, like you Robyn 🙂
