It’s not often we think of a Blend Mode as being the best thing since sliced bread.  But, I gotta tell ya out of all Photoshop’s 28 Blend Modes, there is one that rules them all.  There is one Blend Mode that can handle any task you throw at it with unprecedented results.  It’s NOT Soft Light, it’s Linear Light!

For the last several months I have been documenting every task I have used the Linear Light Blend Mode with and the list is exhaustive!  I found that I use it with everything from Noise Reduction & Sharpening to Color Grading and Dodging and Burning.  Really, there is no other Blend Mode that is quite as versatile.

    I have found that these actions are my go to photo corrections. Using the Sony A7RIII camera allows me to not require a great deal of correction. Color addition is my biggest concern in correcting a photo! I am happy as a clam with my new found tools from you, Blake!

    After carefully following Blake’s video covering Linear Light Blending modes, I realized that I had been ignoring a very powerful blending mode for my solar image processing.

    I purchased the Linear Light Blend Mode and added all of the actions to Photoshop. The download contains a host of videos covering all of the LL Blend Modes and “extras” with tips from Blake… All very informative.

    Most of us learn that there are at least ‘six different ways’ to accomplish the same task in Photoshop. Do they all produce the identical results? No! There is always a difference in quality, nuance etc. The methods taught in Blake Rudis’ Linear Light Blend Mode course produce results that are excellent yet give total control to the maker! This is important since you will apply these methods at the artistic phase of your creation. At $29 it is a BARGAIN for such wealth of knowledge.

As he points out experimenting and practice are critical but his explanations and demonstrations are clear. Blake’s Fine Arts and artist background are integral to his overall approach and have awakened a whole new dimension in photography for me which is exciting because I got interested in it back in the 1950’s!

    LInear LIght Blend Mode is an interesting course. It is likely that many of the editing techniques that Blake teaches can be accomplished by programs that can be used as plug ins in Photoshop. However, such programs add tremendous size to your files and thus editing can become slower as more layers are added. Moreover, such additional programs are expensive. Consequently, learning to edit using Linear Light Blend Mode is advantageous. The techniques are well illustrated and easy to implement. Moreover, Blake includes his actions which can be easily installed and run as desired. The cost of the course is considerably less than the cost of the additional programs and in the long run will save both time and money.

    I highly recommend this course to anyone who desires to enhance a photograph. This Linear Light Blend Mode class is not just another way to enhance a photograph that you would be able to possibly find in other software. The results that can be obtained with this methodology are truly unique (and impressive!). Additionally, the instruction is clear as a bell. The course offers ‘actions’ which will execute the steps involved in the various applications that are discussed in the course – however, as I said, the instruction is so clear that the actions, though certainly helpful, are not really needed. I would say that some minimal experience with photoshop would be very helpful in navigating this course. As an aside, over the years I have taken quite a few photoshop courses. If I had to do it over again, I would have taken the photoshop course offered by f.64 due to thoroughness and clarity that is a hallmark of all of the f.64 instructional materials.

    Training was pretty good, as usual though it is a fire-hose full of information and practice is how you learn the techniques. The included actions are helpful and they are getting used however sometimes it’s just easier to manually add the layers for the desired technique. All in all – well worth the expenditure.

    Linear Light was a blend mode I have never heard mentioned in my 12 year photo journey. Then, Blake started to talk about it and fortunately for my education by the time he mentioned it, I had a strong positive opinion that he knew what he was talking about. So, I held my breath and jumped in. It is now a core technique for improving photos. And, it can be used in conjunction with standard PS techniques to add value to any photo. Well worth spending the time to learn the materials and to practice enough to integrate Linear Light into your skill set.

    There are not enough superlatives available to explain how great this course and Blake’s instruction style and enthusiasm is.

    Linear Light blend mode is one that I have stayed away from because I had no idea how to use it effectively. NOW I use it on all of my images at one point or another. If I want to sharpen, dodge and burn, create light where needed, bring out details, add a glow, dodge and burn with color, I can do it all and more in Linear Light blend mode with what I learned in this course.
    I confidently go to Linear Light as my first option in blend modes now and see what it will do to an image before I even think about the other blend modes.
